DOWNLOAD: Son of Raw : Episode 30
In late 2009 legendary NYC radio DJ Stretch Armstrong played an entire two hour show of demo tapes he received during his time working on WKCR and Hot 97 FM and being one of NYC's most respected hip-hop DJs. His access to and knowledge of unreleased and demo music from hip-hop elites like Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Organized Konfusion and others made for an incredible show; it inspired Son of Raw's DJ Sake One to compile some demos that he has collected and unearthed over the years and do a similar show.
The sound quality on these recordings varies -- some are studio masters, others are dubs of dubs recorded from cassette tapes that were played hundreds of time (especially the Wu-Tang demos -- background vocals done by MC HISSSSSSSSSSSsssss); together they present a unique view inside the songs and music ideas that led to classic hip-hop records in the 1980s and 1990s.
