Today's show was a no-brainer. How could I not pay tribute to one of music most gifted vocalists, EVER? Whitney Houston's passing leaves us all who loved her and her music in somewhat of a bitter place. We loved her music and lord knows we all had more than a few laughs at her expense, but I think the real fans were really rooting for her to come back and regain that throne. It can be said for female singers, there's two eras, before Whitney and after Whitney. Before Whitney, women wanted to be Aretha, Etta, or Chaka (to name a few). But after Whitney, every woman who's considered a serious singer took influence and inspiration from Whitney Houston. There have been and will be many more amazing singers to follow in Whitney's footsteps, but non quite like her. She was a one of a kind and a true original.
Rest In Peace, Rest In Power, Whitney Houston.

On this week's show I play classic and a few semi current Hip-Hop/Reggae records. During Hip-Hop's golden era, we saw the fusion of Hip-Hop & Reggae/Dancehall music which proved to be a winning combination. Many Reggae/Dancehall artists began to embraced Hip-Hop in the late 80's and pumped out some serious hits. Mad Lion, Supercat, Ini Kamozi to name a few. We also saw Hip-Hop artists switch it up and drop Reggae records, some better than others. A couple artists/songs not in my mix today but deserve an honorable mention, DJ Quik's (The Bombudd), Queen Latifah(Princess Of The Posse), KRS-1 and Spiggidy Spice-1. Another big up to producer Salaam Remi who has many produced/remixed cuts in this mix, including my personal favorite Hip-Hop/Reggae record of all time, Supercat's "Ghetto Red Hot". We eventually seen some of Bob Marley's kids drop some Hip-Hop/Reggae classics. It's also fitting that today is Bob Marley's Birthday. Download, listen & Enjoy!

This week's show highlights a producer I've been a fan of and respected from day 1; DJ Muggs. Born in Queens, New York, Muggs moved to L.A. came onto the scene in '88, producing & remixing tracks for 7A3 and Mellow Man Ace. But everyone who knows Muggs knows he rose to fame with the inception of Cypress Hill. His style was different than other producers at the time although you heard influences from The Bomb Squad and The Beatnuts. A lot of his samples came from funk and rock records and his drum breaks were always rugged. In this mix you'll get a full fill of Cypress Hill classics. You'll also hear classics from Funkdoobiest, House Of Pain, Ice Cube, KRS-One, MC Eiht and his collaborations with The Gza and classics from his Soul Assassins records. Enjoy!

Download:Mike Biggz Experience: My Favorite Indie Labels
Today on the show I bring you the first installment to "My Favorite Indie Labels" Series. Today I play music from DFA Records. DFA was founded in 2001 by Mo' Wax co-founder Tim Goldsworthy, (musician & LCD Soundsystem's frontman) James Murphy, and manager Jonathan Galkin. DFA without a doubt is one of the top 5 best labels to come out in the past decade. DFA is known for making amazing dance records that are often left field, anti-pop and at times unusual but brilliant and beautiful. DFA is one of those few labels you can always count on to not disappoint when they release something. This is going to be a 2 part show since DFA is also known for making lengthy records. You'll hear music from LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, The Juan Maclean and (one of my favorite new artists of 2011) Holy Ghost. You'll also get a few classic DFA Remixes too.

Today on the program I bring you hip-hop classics and currents from the city I grew up in, and still call home, Richmond California.
Richmond has only been getting it's true shine on mainstream radio in the last 5 years with folks like The Frontline and Locksmith, Erk Tha Jerk, Laroo The Hard Hitter and most recently IamSU!, Skipper & Kool John with their hit "Swaggin." Before the hyphy movement, Richmond's rap scene was often overlooked because everything people knew about Bay Area hip-hop came from the already established Oakland rap scene. Maybe that's why Richmond rapper Filthy Phil came up with the term and song "Player Hater."
There were a few interesting moments in Richmond's rap history you may not know about -- Erase-E getting on the Unsigned Hype section in The Source magazine, or Silk-E winning MTV's talent competition show, The Cut (which American Idol and X-Factor bit off of). A lot of folks might even forget before helping putting the south on the map, Master P started his career in Richmond and helped it gain attention before bailing back to the south. One could say if it wasn't for Richmond (and the Bay in general), the south wouldn't sound like it does or be where it's at today. So go back and check for these artists you may have slept on. And for the newer generation of Richmond Rap, it's only going to get bigger!
PS: Sorry for the bad quality on that one, it's a digital transfer from a cassette.

Last week we lost another pioneer, one many refer to as the mother of Hip-Hop, Sylvia Robinson. For those not aware who she was, Sylvia Robinson was a singer, songwriter, record producer, and record label executive, most notably known for her work as founder/CEO of the hip hop label, Sugar Hill Records. She is credited as the driving force behind two landmark singles Rapper's Delight and The Message. Along with ushering in the era of Hip-Hop on Wax she was also known as a powerful and at times shrude business woman(Hip-Hop's first answer to rule 4080??). If you don't know the Story of Sugar Hill Records, it's one to google. Also her career as a singer and songwriter is not to be over looked. She made some incredible music. Her song "Pillow Talk" was a hit on the R&B & Pop Charts. She also did a lot of work for The Moments, most notably for their classic "Love Is A Two Way Street". On today's show, the first half is dedicated to her solo work and with the groups she was affiliated with and help put on. The 2nd half of today's show are some Sugar Hill classics. Enjoy and R.I.P. Sylvia Robinson

On today's show, we go to France as I drop some classic and current French Downtempo, Electronica, House and Electro joints! This mix was supposed to come a little later in the year, but with the untimely death of French Hip-Hop/Electro Producer DJ Mehdi, I figured it'd only be right to drop this mix today. You'll hear some of Mehdi's records as well as a who's who of French Producers and DJ's. Some of the best music in the world comes from France and if you've never physically traveled outside of the US, at least your ears can. Enjoy!

Waddup folks, I'm back! It's been two months and a day since I've done this show and it's good to be back! Today I bring you a very special mix as I pay tribute to one of my favorite musicians, producers and dj's to come out within the last 10 years, Will Holland AKA Quantic. The good folks at http://www.tru-thoughts.co.uk/ Tru-Thoughts just released the 2 disc "Best Of Quantic" which complies many Quantic classics. It includes cuts from his solo albums as well as music from his side projects(The Quantic Soul Orchestra, Quantic Presenta Flowering Inferno, The Limp Twins & Quantic And His Combo Barbara). Today's mix will include some of the selections from this double disc set, but it will mainly focus on the Quantic classics not included. I'm a really big fan and personally it could have been a 4 disc best of with a catalog like his. So go cop The Best Of Quantichttp://shop.etchshop.co.uk/search.php?key=235 HERE and download the mix I did right here
